Establishment. There shall be a council on aging appointed by the Town Manager, subject to confirmation by the Town Council, to consist of nine members. (Charter, §§4-3-1 and 4-3-2)
3-201.2.
Authority and Responsibility. The council on aging shall advocate for the needs of the elderly people residing in the Town of Southbridge. The council on aging shall make continuing surveys of the elderly population to better determine their needs, problems and concerns. The Council on Aging shall develop criteria for program and supportive services development based upon an assessment of needs and participates in programs offered by the Commonwealth’s Department of Elder Affairs and others. The responsibilities of the council on aging shall be to serve in an advisory capacity to the director of elder services. (MGL c. 40, § 8B)
