No person shall trespass upon the real property of another where signs forbidding trespass are posted at each corner of the property; provided, however, that where such property exceeds one acre in area, signs must also be posted at intervals of three hundred feet or less, on or near the boundary lines of such property. The signs herein required shall be at least one square foot in area and shall be placed at least three feet above the normal level of the ground. The words forbidding trespass shall be at least two inches in height and shall read as follows: "PRIVATE PROPERTY—NO TRESPASS." Other words shall be added, as may be desired, to indicate that trespassers are subject to prosecution under this section. If the letters on the sign are black, the background shall be white, and vice versa. This section shall have no application to any officially authorized peace officer or law enforcement agent in the execution of his official duty, nor to any person calling at the residence or place of business of another person for the purpose of visiting or of transacting legitimate business. This section is intended to supplement Section 602 of the Penal Code of the state.
