The purpose of this chapter is to insure that proper radiation
shielding is provided in the construction, conversion or alteration
of a building or enclosure used to house an X-ray machine so as not
to jeopardize the health, safety or welfare of the people of this
city.

The following terms, as used in this chapter, shall have the
meanings set forth in this chapter, unless it is apparent from the
context thereof that some other meaning is intended.
"Health officer"
means the county health officer or his or her agents or deputies.
"Person"
means any individual, firm, partnership, corporation, company,
society, or association, and every officer, agent or employee thereof.
"X-ray machine"
means any radiation machine or device capable of producing
ionizing radiation when the associated control devices are operated.

(a) Any
person, prior to the construction, conversion or alteration of a building
or enclosure used to house an X-ray machine, shall submit for review
and approval, an application along with two copies of the plans and
shielding specifications, and plan checking fees required by this
chapter to the county health care agency, environmental health division.
(b) The
health officer shall review the plans and shielding specifications
required to be submitted pursuant to this article and either approve
the plans and shielding specifications or indicate what modifications
are required to comply with the requirements of the Radiation Control
Law, Division 20, Chapter 7.6, California
Health and Safety Code,
together with regulations enacted pursuant thereto.

Plan checking fees shall be those established by the board of
supervisors, the fees shall be paid by each person submitting a plan
check application. Any person who fails to submit a plan check application
and fee shall pay a late fee, as established by resolution of the
board of supervisors, in addition to required x-ray machine plan check
fees.
