A. 
Each member of the city council shall receive as a salary the amount as set forth in an ordinance adopted from time to time by the city council pursuant to the provisions of Section 36516, 36516.2 or other similar provisions of the Government Code, or any other state law hereinafter adopted.
B. 
Pursuant to the authority granted by Government Code Section 36516, each member of the city council shall receive a salary in the sum of five hundred dollars per month. The salary in this amount is payable in the same manner and at the same rate as the salary paid to officers and employees of the city. Except as otherwise provided by statute, an increase in salary may not exceed an amount equal to five percent for each calendar year from the effective date of the last increase as authorized by Government Code Section 36516(c).

Each member of the city council shall be entitled to reimbursement for actual expenses incurred in connection with the performance of any of their official duties. The reimbursement shall be monthly in arrears and based on an itemized statement and demand by the councilmember enumerating all expenses and providing such additional information as the council may from time to time require by resolution. The council may also, from time to time by resolution adopt additional requirements and conditions to the payment of councilmember expenses.
