Unless a different meaning is apparent from the context or is specified in the code, the following definitions shall be used:
"Advanced life support (ALS)"means any advanced life support medical treatment performed by paramedics (EMT-P) outside of a hospital. This treatment shall follow the current "Policy and Procedures" as specified by the Orange County emergency medical services agency, and as defined in the Health and Safety Code Section
1797.52.
"Ambulance"means the designated ground ambulance service, licensed by the state of California and the county of Orange, which provide services for the city of La Habra.
"Basic life support (BLS)"means any basic life support treatment which is authorized by the state of California Department of Health to be performed by emergency medical technicians I (EMT-I) and/or paramedics (EMT-P) at the scene of a medical emergency. This treatment shall follow the current "Policy and Procedures" as specified by the Orange County emergency medical services agency, and as defined in the Health and Safety Code Section
1797.60.
"Emergency medical assist"means a request for service that does not involve ALS or BLS skills. Examples include; requests to assist residents (who have fallen) back into bed or into a chair.
"Fee-for-service"means billing that is generated to cover costs of emergency medical care (ALS, BLS, assist), emergency ambulance service and emergency medical supply costs.
"FireMed program"means a voluntary membership plan in which members shall prepay at a fixed price the uninsured portion of emergency medical care, emergency ambulance services and emergency medical supplies provided by the fire department providing service to the city of La Habra and/or La Habra Ambulance. This prepaid membership fee will assure members that they will not incur the higher direct fee-for-service charge.
"FireMed services"means those services provided by the fire department providing service to the city of La Habra and/or La Habra Ambulance related to emergency medical care, emergency ambulance service and emergency medical supplies provided during the course of an emergency medical incident.
"Residence of La Habra"is defined as a single dwelling unit in which one or more related or unrelated persons permanently reside. For purposes of this chapter, a convalescent hospital, rest home and retirement homes, shall each be defined as containing separate residences equal to the number of beds in each facility. Hotels, motels, and temporary residential facilities are not included under this definition unless a person has taken up permanent residence at one of these facilities, and can show proof of residence.
"Supplies"means disposable medical supplies and drugs that are used for necessary treatment by EMTs during an emergency.
