"Deface,"
as used in this chapter, means the intentional altering of the physical shape or physical appearance of property.

It is unlawful for any person to intentionally deface, alter, change, destroy, mutilate, remove, take down or take away any public property or any private property without the consent of the owner of such private property. A mistake as to the private property owner's identity shall not be a defense to a violation of this section.

In addition to any other penalties provided for a violation of a section of this chapter, a violator may be required to pay for the costs of repairing any damages to property caused by that violator's unlawful conduct.
