"Animal control officer"
for purposes of this chapter shall include any peace officer
while enforcing the provisions of this chapter.
"Enclosed vehicle"
means a vehicle with structure on top and all sides. An enclosed
vehicle with open windows or doors shall be deemed enclosed for purposes
of this chapter.

It is unlawful for any person to leave, unattended, any animal
within an enclosed vehicle.

Any animal found unattended in an enclosed vehicle may be removed
forthwith from said vehicle by an animal control officer and impounded
in the city animal shelter or such other place as said animal control
officer deems appropriate. Said animal control officer shall provide
to the animal so removed, such care as might be necessary.

When an animal has been removed from a vehicle pursuant to this chapter, the animal control officer shall cause to be posted in a conspicuous place on said vehicle, a notice which shall state that the animal has been removed from the vehicle pursuant to Palm Springs Municipal Code Section
10.22.030, where the animal has been impounded, the procedure whereby the owner of said animal may regain custody of it, and that the owner may be liable for impound fees and costs. The owner shall also be notified of such impoundment pursuant to Section
10.20.020.

Any animal impounded under this chapter shall be subject to the provisions of Chapter
10.20 of this code.

This chapter is not applicable to animals which are in a peace
officer's vehicle, animal control officer's vehicle, or
other vehicles with a permit (subject to conditions of approval) issued
by the Chief of Police, while engaged in their regularly assigned
duties.
