Elected officials in the City of Atascadero are the Mayor, City Councilmembers and City Treasurer.

Elected officials are entitled to participate in the City employee medical insurance policy. The City will pay for the elected official's participation up to the amount contributed by the City for those employees electing employee only coverage under the Management and Confidential Resolution in place at the time of coverage. The elected official's spouse and dependents may also be covered, but the elected official is required to reimburse the City the total cost of that coverage.

Elected officials are entitled to participate in the City employee life insurance policy. Coverage for the elected official shall equal the amount of coverage provided to the employees covered under the Management and Confidential Resolution in place at the time of coverage. The City will pay for the elected official's participation. Elected officials are required to participate in a retirement plan. Elected officials may choose to participate in the City's CalPERS plan or the City offered FICA-substitute plan. Elected officials shall pay the required employee contribution amount as set by the plan.
