The office of the city treasurer is established pursuant to Section 36501 of the California Government Code. The city treasurer shall be appointed by and serve at the pleasure of the majority of the city council.

The city treasurer shall receive such compensation and expense allowance as the city shall from time to time determine, and such compensation shall be a proper charge against such funds of the city as the city council shall designate.

The city treasurer shall perform such duties as are prescribed by Sections 41000 through 41007 of the California Government Code and by any other provisions of law applicable to deposit, investment, and safe-keeping of public funds of the city.
