All hotels, inns, motels, auto camps, public rooming or lodging houses, or other similar places within the City of Union City where living rooms or sleeping accommodations are rented shall keep a register in which shall be entered in a legible fashion, the following information: The true names and residence addresses of all persons to be accommodated, the make, type and license number of any automobile, trailer or other vehicle and the state in which such vehicle or vehicles is, or are, registered and the year of registration. The register shall show the day, month and year when such information was entered, and the room or rooms to be occupied by such persons. It shall be unlawful for any owner, proprietor or lessee of a hotel, motel, loading house, rooming house or other place or establishment in the City of Union City where living rooms or sleeping accommodations are rented, to refuse or neglect to comply with the requirements hereinbefore set forth.

The person providing the accommodations as specified in Section 9.14.010 of this chapter shall require identification, in the form of a driver's license, passport, government-issued identification card or other acceptable proof of identification, to be presented upon registration sufficient to confirm the identities of the person to be accommodated, and shall set forth in the register the type of identification so presented.

Such registries maintained pursuant to this chapter shall be available for immediate review and inspection upon request by any member of the Union City Police Department. No City Police Officer shall inspect a hotel/motel register without first obtaining approval from a City Police Department supervisor. Should the owner, manager or other person having management or control not agree to voluntarily produce the guest registry upon receipt of such a request, he or she shall do so upon presentation of a duly executed search warrant authorizing the Union City Police Department's review, inspection, reproduction and/or impoundment of the guest registry. An owner, manager or other person in management or control shall not be in violation of this chapter for failure to voluntarily produce the guest registry but shall be in violation for failure to do so immediately upon presentation of a duly executed search warrant requiring production.

No person registering at any place as specified in Section 9.14.010 of this chapter shall register him or herself or any other person under any false or assumed name or designation, or under the name of any other person or fictitious person, and no person shall knowingly allow him or herself to be registered under any such false, fictitious or assumed name. No person placing any information required by Section 9.14.010 of this chapter in any register, shall falsely or inaccurately state such information.
