For the purpose of this chapter, a firearm includes any rifle, gun, pistol, revolver, air rifle, BB gun, air gun, sling, slingshot, bow and arrow, crossbow, or other instrument or device designed or intended to discharge or capable of discharging a bullet, shot, arrow, or missile of any kind.

No person shall discharge any firearm within the City of Union City except:
A. 
Peace Officers in the performance of their duties;
B. 
Persons in defense of life or property; and
C. 
Persons otherwise permitted to do so by law, provided however, possession of a hunting license issued by the State of California shall not be considered "permitted by law" within the meaning of this section.

No person shall, within the City of Union City, sell, loan or give any ammunition to any person under eighteen years of age.

Any firearm or ammunition being used in violation of this chapter may be confiscated by any law enforcement officer and retained at the Police Department until claimed by the owner thereof in person and in the event the equipment so confiscated is a firearm and the owner is a minor, until he/she is accompanied by one of his or her parents.
