The city council shall appoint a person as municipal judge of
the city.

The municipal judge of the city shall be appointed for a term
of office of two years.

The person appointed municipal judge shall preside over the
municipal court of the city and shall have jurisdiction in all criminal
cases arising under the ordinances of the city and in all criminal
cases arising under the applicable laws of the state.

The salary and other benefits, if any, of the municipal judge
shall be determined by the city council.

The clerk of the municipal court is hereby authorized to appoint
as many deputy clerks as necessary for the operation of the municipal
court. The deputy clerk shall have the power to administer oaths and
affidavits, make certificates, affix the seal of the city thereto,
and generally do and perform any and all acts usually and necessary
for the operation of the municipal court.
