As used in this chapter, the word "hotel" means and is construed to mean any hotel, motel, lodging house, rooming house or other building or group of buildings containing guest rooms or sleeping accommodations which are rented, let or hired out for use and occupancy by tenants or guests for compensation.
(Prior code §7-82)
Every person within the county who owns, keeps, maintains, controls or operates a hotel shall provide, keep and maintain a register of guests, consisting of a book or of registration cards, and shall require every person who rents or occupies a room in such hotel to write in the register, or on a registration card, his name and place of residence. If such person so renting or occupying a room in a hotel is the owner or operator of a motor vehicle stored or parked in a garage, lot, or other parking facility provided by the hotel, he shall also enter in the register or on the registration card the make, type, license number and state of registration of the motor vehicle. The registration shall be made upon a page of the register or on a registration card which is properly dated with reference to the day, month and year, at the time the person rents or arranges to occupy a room.
(Prior code §7-80)
The hotel registers or registration cards required by this chapter shall be preserved by the owner or operator of the hotel for at least ten years from the date of last entry thereon, and upon demand, shall be open to inspection or investigation by any member of the sheriff's department, by any other law enforcement officer of the county, or by any public employee on official government business, immediately upon demand having been made by such officer or public employee.
