It is unlawful for any person to shoot or discharge any gun,
pistol, BB gun, pellet gun or other firearm or any air gun, blow gun,
spring gun or pistol; or, to use a crossbow of any type; or, to use
a bow more than three feet in length; or, metal or pointed tipped
arrows; or, to explode or discharge any dynamite, nitroglycerine,
gunpowder or any such manufactured article within the city, not in
necessary self defense or in the performance of official duty.
Nothing in this section shall prohibit the use of explosives
by persons engaged in lawful construction or demolition; provided,
that a permit is first issued by the chief of police to insure the
safety of persons and property.
Nothing in this section shall prohibit the use of bows and arrows
in the teaching of the art of archery by the city schools, parochial
or private schools, or by the department of parks and recreation as
a part of their regular program, or by an adult supervised commercial
amusement or training business, or under the supervision of a responsible
adult upon an archery range approved by the chief of police; nor the
manufacturing, testing and sale of any of the articles mentioned in
this section at wholesale by any person or bona fide firm in the city;
nor the sale by mail order sales of any of the articles mentioned
in this section to persons residing outside the city limits.
