As used in this chapter, the following items are ascribed the
following meaning:
"Condominium project"
means a condominium project, as defined in Section 783 of
the
Civil Code, a community department project, as defined in Section
11004 of the
Business and Professions Code, or a stock cooperative
project, as defined in Section 11003.2 of the Business and Professions
Code. The project is the entire parcel of real property, including
any buildings thereon, to be subdivided for the purpose of constructing,
or of converting existing structures to, condominiums or community
apartments or for the purpose of converting existing dwelling units
to stock cooperatives.
"Subdivision"
has the meaning ascribed to it by the provisions of the Subdivision
Map Act, commencing with Section 66410 of the
Government Code.

Any subdivision creating five or more condominiums or a community apartment containing five or more parcels, or converting a dwelling to a stock cooperative containing five or more dwelling units shall comply with the Subdivision Map Act and the provisions of Chapters
20.04,
20.08,
20.12,
20.16 and
20.20 of this title. Any subdivision creating two or more condominiums, but less than five, or a community apartment containing two or more parcels, but less than five, or converting of a dwelling to a stock cooperative containing two or more dwelling units, but less than five, shall comply with the Subdivision Map Act and the provisions of Chapter
20.24 of this title.

The requirements of this chapter shall be followed whether the
project is to be newly constructed or involves the conversion of existing
buildings.
