The purpose of the airport district (AP) is to provide opportunities to create more desirable environments through the application of flexible and diversified land development standards under a professional, prepared comprehensive plan designed to provide for the safety, health and general welfare of the citizens of Riverton.

The following uses and structures shall be permitted in the AP airport district:
A. 
Airports;
B. 
One-family dwellings located on tracts of one acre or more;
C. 
Any form of agricultural activity, but excluding commercial livestock facilities and sales or auction facilities which require approval from the city council through a conditional use permit;
D. 
Public Parks and Recreation Areas. Recreation facilities that congregate people are not permitted within runway protection zones as shown on the airport master plan.

The following uses may be permitted as conditional uses in the AP airport district by the city council upon recommendation of the planning commission and subject to such requirements as the city council deems necessary to protect adjacent property, prevent objectionable or offensive conditions and promote the health, safety and general welfare:
A. 
Cemeteries located outside the runway protection zones as shown on the airport master plan;
B. 
Commercial or private recreation areas or developments such as golf courses, campgrounds, drive-in theaters, riding stables, race tracks, swimming pools, etc., located outside the runway protection zones as shown on the airport master plan;
C. 
Extraction of sand, gravel, minerals and petroleum or natural gas;
D. 
Public buildings or facilities erected or established and operated by any governmental agency;
E. 
Radio, television and communication towers and transmitters;
F. 
Utility substations.
