(a) 
Whenever this code designates and describes any street or portion thereof as a street; the use of which is permitted by any vehicle exceeding a gross weight of three tons, the city engineer, pursuant to the authority granted in this chapter, shall designate such street or portion thereof by appropriate "Truck Traffic Route" signs for the movement of vehicles exceeding gross weight of three tons.
(b) 
When any such truck traffic route or routes are established and designated by appropriate signs, no person shall drive or park any vehicle exceeding a gross weight of three tons on any street or portion of a street, except those streets so designated as truck traffic routes. Parking time shall not exceed two hours on these designated streets.
(c) 
This section shall:
(1) 
Not prohibit the uses set forth in subsection (e) of Section 35703 of the Vehicle Code;
(2) 
Not apply to vehicles and roadways for which exemptions are specified in Section 35701 et seq., of the Vehicle Code.
(d) 
Those streets and parts of streets described in the street schedule adopted by resolution of the city council, which is on file in the office of the city clerk, are declared to be the official city truck traffic routes for the movement of vehicles exceeding a gross weight of three tons.

Whenever this code designates and describes any street or portion thereof as a street; the use of which is prohibited by any commercial vehicle, the city engineer shall erect and maintain appropriate signs on those streets affected.
(b) 
Those streets and parts of streets described in the street schedules, which are on file in the office of the city clerk, are declared to be streets; the use of which is prohibited by any commercial vehicle.
