For purposes of this chapter, the following terms shall have the following meanings:
"Business"
shall mean (Section 5.04.040 (3)) an establishment engaged in one or more commercial or mercantile activities for the purpose of earning, in whole or in part, a profit or livelihood whether or not a profit or livelihood is actually earned thereby.
"Business activity"
shall mean a commercial or mercantile activity, together with all devices, machines, articles, and appurtenances used therein, which is conducted for the purpose of earning, in whole or in part, a profit or livelihood whether or not a profit or livelihood is actually earned thereby.
"Cash"
means valid United States currency, in the form of both paper Federal Reserve Notes and metal coins. "Cash" does not include: (1) currency issued under the authority of any country other than the United States; (2) any paper instrument other than a Federal Reserve Note (including, but not limited to, any check, bond, or promissory note); (3) any coin that is not legal tender in the United States; (4) any counterfeit notes or coins; and (5) Federal Reserve Notes in denominations larger than $100.

It shall be unlawful for any business engaging in business activity with a physical location in the city open to customers to refuse to accept payments for goods or services in cash from customers.

A violation of this title is subject to the administrative penalty provisions of Sections 1.08.030 through 1.08.070 of this code. Where the violation is of a continuing nature, each day or portion thereof wherein the violation continues constitutes a separate and distinct violation.
