There is established within County government the Department of Coroner. The office of Coroner is created within the Department of Coroner.

The Director of the Department of Coroner shall be appointed by the County Executive, subject to the approval of the Board of Supervisors, and shall be subject to removal by the County Executive as provided for in the Charter.

a. 
The Director shall have and exercise each, every and all powers and duties conferred by the County Charter, the County Code, the California Constitution, statutes or other laws on a coroner.
b. 
The Director shall also be vested with such powers, functions, duties and responsibilities as provided by County Charter, ordinance or other law with respect to the administration of forensic medical programs and services together with those powers and duties as are from time to time prescribed and assigned by the Board of Supervisors.

The Coroner shall be authorized to designate in writing certain subordinate personnel as "Deputies," and to vest them with the powers of a County Coroner; and any employee of the County so designated shall be authorized to exercise such powers of the Coroner as are prescribed by the written designation.
