It is unlawful for any person to discharge or use any pistol,
shotgun, rifle, or other firearm or air gun within the city. This
section shall not apply to peace officers in the performance of the
duties of their office nor to persons shooting at a target range or
shooting gallery; nor to persons protecting their families or themselves,
pursuant to the laws of the state, from violence or criminal activity.
