§ 7.24.010 Commercial vehicle routes— Designated.

The following streets and portions of streets are declared to be the city's commercial vehicle routes:

Except as provided in Section 7.24.020, no person shall use, operate, maintain or park any commercial vehicle, as defined in California Vehicle Code Section 260(a), with a gross weight of ten thousand pounds or more, and no commercial vehicle for hire or advertised for hire shall use, operate, maintain or park, on any street or portion thereof not designated in subsection A.

§ 7.24.020 Commercial vehicle routes—Exemptions.

The restriction imposed by subsection B of Section 7.24.010 shall not apply to the following:

Passenger buses under the jurisdiction of the California Public Utilities Commission;

Commercial vehicles, as defined in this chapter, or vehicles for hire or advertised for hire coming from an unrestricted street having ingress and egress by direct route to and from a restricted street when necessary for the purpose of making pickups or deliveries of goods, wares and merchandise from or to any building or structure located on the restricted street; for the purpose of delivering materials to be used in the actual and bona fide repair, alteration, remodeling or construction of any building or structure upon the restricted street for which a building permit has previously been obtained; for the immediate loading and unloading of passengers; from parking in designated areas such as taxi zones or bus zones; for parking and attending a religious service in the immediate area; or parking on or proximate to the owner's or driver's personal residence;

Any vehicle owned by a public utility or a licensed contractor while necessarily in use in the construction, installation, or repair of any public utility;

Any city street on which money from the State Highway Account in the State Transportation Fund has been or is used for construction of maintenance, except in such cases as the city council, after notice and hearing, determines to reduce weight limits on such streets;

Any vehicle owned, leased, operated or controlled by any licensed contractor while necessary in use in the construction, maintenance or repair of a public works project, or by any highway carrier regulated by the Public Utilities Commission while transporting any materials to or from a public works project, when the bids were opened prior to the adoption of this chapter, unless an alternate direct route is provided substantially within the city and is enacted by the city council.

§ 7.24.030 Sign posting.

Streets or portions thereof designated pursuant to Section 7.24.010(A) shall be posted with appropriate signs of a substantial and permanent material and shall bear in legible characters at least two inches in height the words and legend "Truck Route." Such signs shall be erected and maintained at not more than one-thousand-foot intervals upon alternate sides of such streets as to be readily seen by passing traffic. Signs on state highways shall not be erected without the prior approval of the Department of Transportation of the state of California.

§ 7.24.040 Parking restrictions applicable.

Nothing in this chapter shall be construed to authorize the stopping, standing, or parking of any vehicle on any street or portion thereof where stopping, standing, or parking is otherwise prohibited or limited by law.

§ 7.24.050 Regular parking of other large vehicles.

An officer may issue a citation if a vehicle not subject to Sections 7.24.010 through 7.24.040 which exceeds twenty-two feet in length or six feet six inches in width has been regularly and continuously parked on a street from which commercial vehicles are restricted pursuant to Sections 7.24.010 through 7.24.040.

This section shall not apply to the otherwise lawful parking of a pick-up truck or pick-up truck and camper combination.
