Regular meetings of the board of supervisors of the county shall be annually set by resolution. The time for regular meetings to commence shall be set by the clerk of the board of supervisors between eight a.m. and ten a.m. depending upon the needs of the members of the board of supervisors and the items to be heard on their agenda. Regular meetings shall be conducted in the board of supervisors' chambers in the county administrative center in the town of Independence unless otherwise indicated on the annual resolution setting the regular meeting schedule.

A. 
Intent.
1. 
Upon request of a supervisor-elect, county general-fund moneys may be used prior to the assumption of office by that supervisor-elect, for the training and orientation of that supervisor-elect, including the payment of course fees, payment of travel to and from the training course, and per diem expenses as provided in this code, as well as actual course fees and course materials.
2. 
Such training and orientation programs shall be those the board deems proper and beneficial to the exercise of supervisorial duties by newly elected supervisors, and expenses therefor are subject to review for reasonableness upon submission of required expense and travel vouchers to the auditor within thirty days after said supervisor-elect returns; or the board within its discretion may reject said expenses, a portion, or the total thereof.
B. 
Application. In order to receive training and orientation funds, the supervisor-elect shall:

Make a formal request of the board of supervisors at least one week prior to the scheduled training or orientation course, at the regular meeting of the board of supervisors, unless such meeting is not held on the regular day for any reason, in which case the requesting supervisor-elect shall consult with the county administrator for the appropriate course to follow.
2. 
At the time of the formal request, the requesting supervisor-elect shall present whatever reliable information is available to the board of supervisors as to the content of the course or courses and their cost, plus the cost of any materials therefor, as well as the location of said course and the estimated travel, lodging and meal expense.

Members of the board of supervisors shall be compensated for their service as follows:
A. 
Salary. Members shall be paid in accordance with the procedures used to pay all other county officers and employees as follows:
1. 
From January 1, 2005, through March 31, 2007 members shall receive a monthly salary in the amount of three thousand six hundred forty-nine dollars and no cents;
2. 
From April 1, 2007 and on as adjusted by subsection B, members shall receive a monthly salary in the amount of three thousand seven hundred fifty-eight dollars and no cents;
3. 
Effective August 19, 2021, members shall receive a monthly salary in the amount of six thousand five dollars and no cents.
B. 
Salary Increases. Commencing April 1, 2007 and continuing thereafter, the salary for members of the board of supervisors shall be increased at the same rate and the same percentage amount as provided to appointed county officials as a group.
C. 
Insurance Benefits. Members shall receive medical, dental, vision and life insurance as provided to elected county officials as a group.
D. 
Social Security. Elected officials will pay their own contribution for both Social Security and Medicare through payroll deductions.
E. 
Retirement. Members shall be enrolled as members in the public employees retirement system and the county shall make the same contributions for them, and the same retirement benefits available to them, as made for elected county officials as a group.
F. 
Travel Reimbursement. Members shall be reimbursed for county-related travel expenses in accordance with the provisions of the county travel policy.
G. 
Road Inspection. Members shall receive three hundred dollars per year, pursuant to Street and Highway Code Section 2010.
H. 
Other Benefits. Members shall receive longevity pay, clothing allowance, Employee Assistance Program, AirMedCare Network, County medical plan opt out payment, annual medical insurance deductible reimbursement and wellness bonus and be eligible to participate in the flexible benefit plan and deferred compensation plan as provided to elected county officials as a group.
