Pursuant to Section p27640 of the Government Code of the state, there is created the office of county counsel. The county counsel shall be appointed by the board of supervisors.

In accordance with Section 27641 of the Government Code of the state, the county counsel shall serve for four years from the time of his appointment and until his successor is appointed.

Pursuant to Section 27642 of the Government Code of the state, the county counsel shall discharge all duties vested by law in the district attorney other than those of public prosecutor.

Pursuant to Section 27646 of the Government Code and Section 5114 of the Welfare and Institutions Code, the county counsel shall represent the county in proceedings under Part 1 (commencing with Section 5000) of Division 5 of the Welfare and Institutions Code.
