No officer, deputy or employee of the county shall use any vehicle owned by the county on other than business directly affecting the county.

All county vehicles shall be garaged or kept at such places as may from time to time be designated by the board of supervisors of the county when such vehicles are not in use on business directly affecting the county and shall be used on said business only in accordance with rules, regulations and orders which may be made from time to time by the county board of supervisors.

The county sheriff shall care for, make restitution of, sell or destroy unclaimed property which may come into the possession of the sheriff's department in the following manner:
A. 
Any contraband or illegal articles shall be listed and destroyed totally;
B. 
Any other unclaimed property coming into the possession of the sheriff's department shall be listed, marked and given proper care during such time as it is held;
C. 
All unclaimed property, except unclaimed bicycles, shall be held by the sheriff for a period of at least six months and thereafter sold at public auction to the highest bidder, conducted by the sheriff or his authorized agent at the main office of the sheriff's department located in the county seat;
D. 
Notice of any such auction sale shall be given by the sheriff at least five days before the time fixed for sale by publication once in a newspaper of general circulation published in the county.

Any unclaimed bicycles or toys, or both, in the possession of the county sheriff, which have been unclaimed for a period of at least six months may, instead of being sold at public auction to the highest bidder, be turned over to the county probation officer for use by him in any program of activities designed to prevent juvenile delinquency.

In the event the probation officer has no use for such items, unclaimed bicycles shall be held by the sheriff for a period of at least three months and thereafter sold at public auction to the highest bidder conducted by the sheriff or his authorized agents at the main office of the sheriff's department located in the county seat.

The inventory of county property required by Government Code Section 24051 shall be made on an annual basis and it shall inventory property possessed on June 30th of the calendar year of the inventory, and the inventory shall be filed on or before September 1st of each year. The form and contents of the inventory shall be governed by resolution of the board of supervisors and by the guideline set out in Government Code Section 24051.
