The purpose of this chapter is to regulate gun and ammunition dealers located within the city to protect public health, safety, and welfare, and ensure consistency with California law.

Pursuant to Government Code Section 50022.9, the city council incorporates Los Angeles County Code ("LACC") Chapter 7.46, entitled "Gun Dealers," as amended by this chapter. This chapter prevails over any conflicting provisions the LACC.

The following provisions of LACC Chapter 7.46 are amended:
(1)
LACC Section 7.46.040. "Licensee" means any person or entity issued a police permit by the police chief, or designee.
(2)
LACO Section 7.46.040. "Sheriff" means the police chief, or designee.
(3)
LACC Section 7.46.040. "Unincorporated area" includes in its true geographical location the jurisdictional boundaries for the city of Monterey Park.
(4)
Whenever in LACC Chapter 7.46 the words "board" or "commission" are used, they refer to the city council.
(5)
Whenever in LACC Chapter 7.46 the words "commissioner" or "director of public works" are used they refer to the city manager, or designee.
(6)
Whenever in LACC Chapter 7.46 the word "county" is used, it refers to the city of Monterey Park.

Any person violating any provision of this title is guilty of a misdemeanor unless otherwise provided in this title.
