The compensation of the city clerk shall be fixed by resolution of the city council. The city clerk, upon entering upon the duties of the office, shall execute a bond to the city in an amount fixed by resolution of the city council for the faithful performance of such duties.

Any employee in the office of the city clerk may be designated by the city clerk as deputy city clerk to do such acts as are authorized by such officer.

In accordance with the provisions of California Government Code Section 34856 and Ballot Measure B approved by the voters in the general municipal election held on April 8, 1986, the office of city clerk shall be appointed by the city council.
