It is unlawful for any person except a duly elected or appointed peace officer to carry concealed upon or about his or her person any revolver, pistol, dagger, dirk, slug or sling shot, billy or other deadly weapon or instrument without first having obtained a written permit from the sheriff of the county of Los Angeles.
