No person shall fire or discharge any gun, pistol or firearm as defined by MGL c. 140 § 121, in or across any street or other public place within 500 feet thereof, or on private grounds beyond the 500-foot limit, against the objection of the owner. This section shall not prevent the use of such weapons in the lawful defense of one's person, family, or property, or in the performance of any duty required or authorized by law.

No person shall hunt, fire or discharge any firearms or explosives of any kind within the limits of any highway, park or other public property except with the written permission of the Select Board; provided, however, that this by-law shall not apply to the lawful defense of life or property or to any law enforcement officer acting in the discharge of the officer's duties. Said consent of the Select Board shall be carried at all times and upon request shall be shown to any police officer or officer of the Department of Conservation.[1] Any person violating this by-law shall be punished by a fine of not more than $50 for each offense.
