The Mayor shall be the chief executive officer of the Town, and shall see that all provisions of this Code or other ordinances of the Town are enforced. The Mayor shall be ex officio a Justice of the Peace with jurisdiction in civil matters within the corporate limits of the Town, and in government matters within such limits and one mile beyond the same.

From time to time the Mayor shall recommend to the Town Council such measures as he may deem needful for the welfare of the Town. The Mayor shall have control of the police officers of the Town, and may appoint extra or special police officers whenever he deems it necessary, provided that no such extra police officer shall be appointed by the Mayor to serve at the expense of the Town for a greater period than one week at a time.
In case a vacancy occurs in the office of Mayor, the Town Council shall elect a qualified person to fill the vacancy until the first general municipal election which may be held in the Town thereafter, when the vacancy shall be filled by election for the unexpired term.
The Mayor shall not at any time contract any debt or liability for the Town in excess of $50, but he may, as agent of the Town, after being duly authorized by the recorded vote of the majority of the Town Council at any regular, or special, meeting, contract such debt or liability.

The Mayor shall be paid an annual salary as established by Council, which shall be paid in equal monthly installments.
