"Bicycle":A vehicle consisting of a frame and two tandem wheels that is propelled exclusively by human power applied to pedals connected to a rear wheel by a chain, and utilizing handlebars for steering and a seat for its rider. No operator of a bicycle shall be required to possess a driver's license and no bicycle is required to be registered with the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles.
"Bicycle parking facility":Any facility for the temporary storage of bicycles that allows the frame and one or both wheels to be locked so as to minimize the risk of theft and vandalism.
"Bicycle-share business":A person or company in the business of providing or otherwise making available shared bicycles for hire. For the purposes of this chapter, a bicycle-share business shall be deemed the owner of any such bicycle associated with, provided, or otherwise made available by such bicycle-share business.
"Motorized bicycle":A bicycle that can be propelled by a helper motor; or a pedal or non-pedal bicycle which has a motor with a cylinder capacity not exceeding fifty cubic centimeters, an automatic transmission, and which is capable of a maximum speed of no more than thirty miles per hour and subject to the requirements set forth in Chapter 90 Sections 1B through 1D of the Massachusetts General Laws. A motorized bicycle shall be registered with the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles, shall be subject to all Massachusetts traffic laws and regulations, and shall not be operated at a speed greater than twenty-five miles per hour. An operator of a motorized bicycle must be at least sixteen years of age and possess either a valid Massachusetts learner's permit or drivers license.
"Shared bicycle":A bicycle that is owned by a bicycle share business that is made available to persons for renting on a self-service basis. A shared bicycle shall not be a motorized bicycle, motorized scooter, motorcycle, low-speed motor vehicle or limited-use motor vehicle all as defined and/or governed in Sections 1 through 1E, inclusive, of Massachusetts General Laws Chapter
90.
