(a) 
Any firefighter who at the time of his or her retirement is employed by the City of Albertville, Alabama, Fire Department shall receive, as part of his or her retirement benefit without cost, his or her badge and helmet. To be eligible for this benefit the employee must meet the following requirements:
(1) 
Be in good standing with the City of Albertville.
(2) 
Meet the requirements for retirement as determined under the City's retirement plan.
(3) 
Have a minimum of 10 years of continuous service with the City of Albertville.
(b) 
The City Council shall approve the request of the employee if the above requirements are met and he or she shall be awarded their helmet and badge.
(c) 
The Personnel Director of the City is directed to keep a record of all transactions related to the transfer of the helmet and badge to the employee under this section.

(a) 
The City of Albertville elects to provide Tier I retirement benefits to its Tier II plan members, subject to approval by the Employees' Retirement System Board of Control that, if approved, such election shall be effective the following fiscal year and is irrevocable.
(b) 
The City of Albertville has reviewed the actuarial cost estimates provided by the Employees' Retirement System for such election and agrees to pay any resulting increases in the employer contribution rate.
(c) 
Beginning in the month that such election is effective, the City of Albertville's Tier II plan members shall contribute 7.5% of their earnable compensation to the Employees' Retirement System and the City of Albertville's Tier II plan members who are firefighters or law enforcement officers, as defined by Alabama Code § 36-27-59(a), shall contribute 8.5% of their earnable compensation to the Employees' Retirement System, as required by Act 2019-132.
(d) 
The City of Albertville has not increased the member contribution rates for its Tier I members as provided by Act 2011-676 and, as required by Alabama Code § 36-27-6.5, the City of Albertville has submitted to the Employees' Retirement System a plan to increase such rates.
