The Township of Wayne recognizes that burning wood is an economic and popular means of heating and cooking. At the same time, the storage and processing of logs and firewood can be a nuisance to abutting residents. The Township of Wayne deems that the health and welfare of the general public requires certain protective measures for the storage and processing of logs and storage of firewood in the Township.

As used in this article:
FIREPLACE CORD
A stack of wood sixteen (16) inches wide by eight (8) feet long by four (4) feet high.
FIREWOOD
Any wood or wood product that has been processed for use as heating or cooking fuel. Painted or treated wood shall not be considered firewood.
FIREWOOD PILE
Firewood that is in a pile and awaiting stacking.
FIREWOOD STACK
Firewood that is piled in a neat, secure, and orderly arrangement.
LOGS
Tree trunks or branches located on the ground that have either fallen as a result of natural occurrences or that have been mechanically or manually cut.
WOOD SHED
A three-sided structure with a roof used for the storage of firewood.

A. 
No person shall permanently store Firewood Piles or logs in the front yard of a residentially zoned property;
B. 
A recently processed Firewood Pile may be temporarily stored in the front yard as it awaits stacking.
C. 
Firewood Piles located in the front yard must be organized into Firewood Stacks not to exceed six (6) feet height, stored on a rack or ring, or placed in a Wood Shed and must be located on a paved area or on a front porch area;
D. 
The Firewood Stack located in the front yard shall not impede ingress or egress to the premises or the dwelling or otherwise create a hazard;
E. 
No more than 5% of the total front yard area may be used for storage of Firewood at any one time;
F. 
A Firewood Stack may be located in the side yard or rear yard. The Firewood Stack when located in the side yard or rear yard is not required to be located on a paved area. The Firewood Stack located in the side yard or rear yard shall not be placed closer than two (2) feet from any property line and shall not exceed six (6) feet in height;
G. 
Firewood is permitted to be stored in a residential zone solely for use on the premises and not for re-sale.

Any person violating this article who fails to abate the violation after notice shall be subject to a minimum fine of $50 plus costs, for which the property owner has been found guilty.
