While the general public may be permitted to access Township buildings during regular business hours, the intent of this article is to safeguard public records that may contain confidential information or may be exempt from disclosure under the Open Public Records Act,[1] other Township assets, and personal belongings, and ensure a safe work place, by restricting access to work stations and work areas where such records, assets and personal belongings are maintained.

Municipal office areas, storage, and work stations in the Township, including the Lacey Township Municipal Building, 818 Lacey Road; Police Department, 808 Lacey Road; Department of Public Works offices, 820 Municipal Lane; Recreation Department located behind the police department at the corner of Gille Park Service Road; Community Development office, 124 South Main Street, have been secured and are closed to the public for the purposes set forth in this article, including protecting documents, digital data and other written, copied or printed materials that may contain confidential information that is protected by federal, state or local laws. These areas include, but are not limited to, the following departments:
A. 
Clerk's office (except for lobby area);
B. 
Construction/Zoning Land Use (except for lobby area);
C. 
Mail and supply rooms;
D. 
Server room;
E. 
Employee break room and kitchen;
F. 
CFO-Finance office;
G. 
Tax Assessor's office (except for lobby area);
H. 
Tax Collector office;
I. 
Conference rooms;
J. 
Court office;
K. 
Storage areas;
L. 
Recreation office (except for lobby area);
M. 
DPW (except for the main entrance);
N. 
Police Department (except for lobby area);
O. 
Recreation Huts and Wibit Hut.
The Township shall post signs outside restricted offices and work areas that read, "Stop, Restricted Area, Authorized Employees Only."
Any person violating or failing to comply with any of the provisions of this article shall, upon conviction thereof, be punishable by a fine of not more than $2,000, by imprisonment for a term not to exceed 90 days and/or by a period of community service not to exceed 90 days, in the discretion of the Municipal Court Judge, or criminal prosecution under N.J.S.A. 2C:18-3.
