A. 
Abbreviations, terms, phrases, words and their derivatives used in this chapter shall have the same meanings as provided in the Uniform Code, except as otherwise provided in this chapter.
B. 
The following rules of construction language shall apply to the text of this chapter.
(1) 
Words used in the present tense include the future tense.
(2) 
Words used in the singular include the plural, and words used in the plural include the singular.
(3) 
Words used in the masculine gender include the feminine and neuter genders.
As used in this chapter, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:
BUILDING PERMIT
A building permit, construction permit, demolition permit, or other permit that authorizes the performance of work.
CERTIFICATE OF OCCUPANCY
A certificate issued by the City of Corning indicating compliance with the requirements of the Building Code, inspection or building permit. This term shall also include the terms "certificate of compliance" and "operating permit."
DESIGNATED INSPECTORS
Those person or persons appointed by the City Manager as defined in § 76-7C of this chapter.
ENFORCEMENT OFFICIALS
Those employees of the City of Corning who are charged with the administration and enforcement of the Uniform Code and this chapter and certified pursuant to 19 NYCRR, Chapter XXXII, Part 1208.
FIRE WATCH
A temporary measure intended to ensure continuous and systematic surveillance of a building or portion thereof by one or more approved qualified individuals for the purposes of identifying and controlling fire hazards, detecting early signs of unwanted fire, raising an alarm of fire and notifying the Fire Department.

UNIFORM CODE
The New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code and the New York State Energy Conservation Construction Code, as promulgated by the Secretary of State.
