Chapter 10.10: TRAFFIC CALMING AND CONTROL DEVICES

§ 10.10.010 Calming device installation eligibility requirements.

To be eligible for installation of a town approved traffic calming device, a street must meet the following two qualifications:

It must be classified as an access, local, or collector street, as defined in the town of Yacolt Engineering Standards for Public Works Construction.

It must have an identified speeding problem as observed by neighborhood residents and verified by the public works supervisor.

§ 10.10.020 Approved traffic calming devices.

Portable GNR Speed Bumps. Portable GNR speed bumps are used to slow vehicle speeds. They are used in series to reduce speeds along a section of street.

§ 10.10.030 Designation of "traffic engineer."

The town council appoints its public works director to exercise the powers and duties of "traffic engineer" as described in Washington's Amended Model Traffic Ordinance, WAC 308-330-260.

§ 10.10.040 Reservation of council authority.

The town council may by ordinance or resolution direct the public works director in the exercise of his/her authority under YMC § 10.10.030. Such direction may include, without limitation, the placement or maintenance of official traffic control devices to regulate, warn, or guide traffic as the council may deem necessary or prudent.

§ 10.10.050 Meddling with signs prohibited.

No person shall without lawful authority attempt to or in fact alter, deface, injure, knock down, or remove any official traffic control signal, traffic device, railroad sign or signal, or any inscription, shield or insignia thereon, or any other part thereof.

§ 10.10.060 Penalty.

Any person convicted of a violation of YMC § 10.10.050 shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and shall be punished by a fine not to exceed $1,000.
