In addition to the duties prescribed by the laws of the state, the city attorney for the city shall:
A. 
Attend only those regular and special meetings of the city council when specifically directed to do so by the mayor;
B. 
Draft or approve all ordinances, leases, and conveyances and such other instruments as may be required by the business of the city;
C. 
Attend any work meetings of the city council and any meetings of the city planning commission when specifically directed to do so by the mayor of the city;
D. 
Represent the city with respect to all police court actions.

The city attorney shall receive fees and expenses in such amounts as are determined by contract entered into between the city and the city attorney.
