The Parks and Recreation Department shall be under the direct supervision of a Parks and Recreation Director and shall be organized into five divisions as provided in this chapter.
The Assistant Parks and Recreation Director, who shall be in the unclassified service, shall assist the Parks and Recreation Director and shall act in the capacity of Parks and Recreation Director in his/her absence.

The parks division shall be under the immediate administrative supervision of a park superintendent who shall be in the unclassified service. The duties and responsibilities of this division shall be as follows:
(a) 
The operation of the various parks and playgrounds of the City and maintenance of same in an orderly and safe condition.
(b) 
The maintenance and cultivation of the parks including the trees and shrubbery thereon.
(c) 
The maintenance and cultivation of the lawns, shrubs and aesthetic installations around the public areas and buildings as assigned.
(d) 
The completion of other work as required.

The park construction and repair division shall be under the immediate supervision of a park construction and repair supervisor who shall be in the unclassified service. The duties and responsibilities of this division shall be as follows:
(a) 
Coordinate and supervise the construction and repair of buildings, walks, athletic fields and courts, playground equipment, swimming pools, picnic areas and other City park facilities.
(b) 
Install and repair walks, athletic fields and courts, playground equipment, irrigation and drainage systems, and facilities and structures.
(c) 
Train and supervise assigned personnel in equipment operation, facility construction and repair procedures, and safety procedures.
(d) 
Completion of other work as required.

The park maintenance and operations division shall be under the immediate supervision of a park maintenance and operations supervisor who shall be in the unclassified service. The duties and responsibilities of the division shall be as follows:
(a) 
Coordinate and supervise the planting, cultivation, propagation, transplantation, and care of tree and plant growth in City parks.
(b) 
Maintain the walks, athletic fields and courts, playground equipment, irrigation and drainage systems, and facilities and structures.
(c) 
Train and supervise assigned personnel in appropriate tree and plant maintenance, facility maintenance procedures, equipment operation and safety procedures.
(d) 
Completion of other work as required.

The recreational activities division shall be under the immediate supervision of a recreation superintendent who shall be in the unclassified service. The duties and responsibilities of this division shall be as follows:
(a) 
To operate and maintain a program of recreational and athletic activities for the various age groups of the community, utilizing the available school facilities during the summer vacation.
(b) 
Operate and maintain the swimming pool facilities and municipal plunge.
(c) 
Administer and supervise the various recreational and cultural activities sponsored by the City under contract or agreement with other agencies.
(d) 
Completion of other work as required.

The cemetery division shall be under the immediate supervision of a cemetery superintendent who shall be in the unclassified service. The duties and responsibilities of this division shall be as follows:
(a) 
The administration of the sale of mausoleum crypts and burial lots, vaults, etc., and assistance in burials and interments and maintenance of appropriate records.
(b) 
The maintenance of buildings, roadways and cemetery grounds in a state of good repair and pleasing appearance.
(c) 
The installation of markers, monuments and concrete foundations in accordance with care agreements and good cemetery practice.
(d) 
The completion of other work as required.
