Pursuant to Sections 50022.1 to 50022.8, inclusive, of the Government Code, the city council adopts and enacts as the dangerous building code of the city the 1997 Edition of the Uniform Code for the Abatement of Dangerous Buildings, a nationally recognized compilation of rules, regulations and standards, published by the International Conference of Building Officials, a private organization which has been in existence for a period in excess of five years. One copy of this code is on file with the city clerk for use of and examination by the public, with the following changes and deletions relating to various numbered sections of the dangerous building code, as set forth in this chapter.

The "city engineer" shall be substituted for a "director of public works," which said title is found in Chapters 8 and 9 of the code.

A violation of any provision under this chapter is punishable as a misdemeanor and upon conviction may be punished by a fine of not more than $1,000 or by imprisonment in the county jail for not more than six months, or both.
