If a building is protected by an automatic fire alarm system or a fire sprinkler system, or is a facility that is required to prepare and have available material safety data sheets and/or hazardous chemical inventory forms under the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act of 1986 (SARA Title III), the owner of applicable buildings shall install or cause to be installed a Knox box system and/or lock box document vault prior to the issuance of a certificate of occupancy. The lock box shall be installed on the front of the building near the main entry door and as approved by the building and/or fire code official.
