There exist in the city volunteer fire personnel and those who wish to become volunteer fire personnel. Exclusive of full-time fire department employees, the volunteer fire department association shall consist of up to 35 members. Volunteer members of the fire department association shall be over the age of 18 years and shall be able to perform the duties of a volunteer member of the volunteer fire department association in accordance with the written objective standards approved by the president of the volunteer fire department association.

The name of the volunteer fire department association shall be Pacific Grove volunteer fire department association.

The volunteer fire department association shall be a volunteer association sponsored by the city of Pacific Grove and shall maintain its own insurance, subject to the approval of the city manager.

The members of the volunteer fire department association shall not receive compensation for their training and services.

The volunteer fire department association shall be governed by its own bylaws as to matters pertaining to nonduty activities. Such bylaws, and all future changes thereof, shall be approved by the city manager.

The volunteer fire department association is authorized but not required to perform the following services: preserving the records, equipment, and artifacts of the Pacific Grove fire department; maintaining and operating antique fire apparatus in parades and other community events, as requested by the city manager; providing disaster response services as requested by the EOC director; fundraising as authorized by the city manager; and cooperating with the city and other community service organizations to promote and foster benefit to the community.

The president of the volunteer fire department association shall file with the city manager each quarter or as otherwise needed a summary of all training and services since the last statement, and the names of association members participating in such training and services.
