Pursuant to § 58.1-3651 of the Code of Virginia, as amended, and § 6(a)(6) of Article X of the Constitution of Virginia, properly licensed or permitted non-profit volunteer fire departments and volunteer emergency medical services agencies that operate in the County exclusively for the benefit of the general public without charge are classified as charitable organizations and are exempt from local real and personal property taxation.
