There shall be a shipyard department, the head of which shall be the director of the shipyard department, appointed by the city manager for an indefinite term. The director of the shipyard department shall be an officer of the city and shall have supervision and control of the shipyard department.

The shipyard department shall have charge of and direct the operation and administration of the Ketchikan Shipyard and such other shipyard department facilities and programs, whether or not located within the Ketchikan Shipyard, as may be established.
