A qualified elector who has resided continuously in the municipality during the 12 months immediately preceding the election may serve in an elective municipal assembly office including mayor. Qualifications for school board shall be set out in AS
14.12.080.
Petition. Nomination shall be by petition specifying the position sought on a form prescribed by the assembly, but the right to elect a qualified candidate by write-in vote shall not be limited. Such petition shall be signed by not less than 25 qualified municipal voters. No elector shall sign more than one petition for each office to be filled. If they do so, their signature shall be valid only on the first sufficient petition filed for the office. To each nominating petition shall be attached an affidavit of the circulator thereof, indicating the number of signers of the petition and stating that each signature appended thereto was made in their presence and is the genuine signature of the person whose name it purports to be. With each signature shall be stated the signer’s place of residence, identified by street number or other sufficient description. Petitions may include a space for printing the signatory names to aid the clerk in their identification.
