The AWC Employee Benefit Trust extends dependent eligibility to employees' domestic partners and their children. In accordance with the policies of AWC Employee Benefit Trust as it is presently constituted or hereinafter amended, the city of Newcastle will provide benefit coverage to a domestic partner of the same or opposite sex and dependent children on the same basis as provided to a spouse and dependent children.

Eligibility for domestic partnership status will be established by presentation of an affidavit of domestic partnership meeting the criteria for domestic partners contained in the AWC Employee Trust Benefit policies as currently written or hereinafter amended.

At such time as the city council revises the city of Newcastle personnel policies for any reason, the extension of benefits to domestic partners, as adopted herein, shall be included in the revisions. The extension of benefits to domestic partners shall not be conditioned upon the revision of the city's personnel policies, but upon compliance with NMC § 2.70.020.
