For the statutory provisions regarding the obtaining of legal counsel for the city on a full-time or part-time basis or by any reasonable contractual arrangement, see RCW 35A.13.090.
No person shall be appointed as the city attorney for the city unless he or she is at the time of his or her appointment a member in good standing of the Washington State Bar Association.

All assistant city attorneys shall be duly licensed attorneys-at-law and members in good standing of the Washington State Bar Association, or legal interns under the provisions of Admission to Practice Roles of the Washington State Supreme Court.
