For the statutory provisions regarding a claims fund, see RCW 35.21.085; for provisions regarding the right of election by a code city to use checks for payments of claims, see RCW 35A.40.020.
Pursuant to the authority contained in RCW 35.21.085, there is created for the city a special fund to be designated as "claims fund" into which moneys may be placed from time to time as directed by the city council, by annual budget appropriations or otherwise, from any funds available.

Checks, pursuant to RCW 35A.40.020, or warrants may be drawn on said fund in payment of claims against the city for any purpose. The accounts of the city shall be so kept that they shall show the department or departments and the respective amounts for which the check or warrant is issued and paid.
