The minimum size of water meters installed for single-family residences and multiple living units shall be as follows:
(1) 
Single residence – a three-quarter-inch meter.
(2) 
Duplex through sixplex – a one-inch meter.
(3) 
Seven through 12 units – a one-and-one-half-inch meter.
(4) 
Thirteen through 24 units – a two-inch meter.
(5) 
Meters above this size shall be as designed by the developer and as approved by the director.

(1) 
When a meter is to be or has been installed within any portion of a street, alley, or private property, suitable bases, supports, or barriers shall be installed as will reasonably secure the meter and pipes connected therewith against any damage, strain, or settlement. The property owner shall bear the cost of the construction of bases, supports, and barriers.
(2) 
Owners of property must reasonably protect the city's meter used for service on their premises from damage or theft. The owner of such premises shall pay for any damage to or theft of any meter caused or resulting from their neglect or carelessness.
