The building official is authorized and directed to administer and enforce the provisions of this chapter.

When necessary and upon request, the building official shall have the cooperation and assistance of all city departments in enforcing the provisions of this chapter.

(1)
No officer, agent or employee of the city shall render himself personally liable for any damage that may accrue to persons or property as a result of any act required or permitted in the discharge of his duties under this chapter.
(2)
Any suit brought against any officer, agent or employee of the city as the result of any act required or permitted in the discharge of his duties under this chapter shall be defended by the city attorney until the final determination of the proceedings therein.
