For the purpose of this section.
CARRY
The term "carry" means to go armed with.
FIREARM
The term "firearm" means a shotgun or a rifle or any weapon made from a rifle or shotgun (modification or otherwise) or any other weapon, including a pistol or revolver, from which a shot is discharged by an explosive or propellant, but not including a stud gun when used for its intended purpose.
UNLOADED AND STOWED
A firearm which has no ammunition in its chamber or magazine and is stowed for transportation.
WEAPON
The term "weapon" means kniyes, switchblades, batons, pepper gas, or any other object which is carried or brandished for the purpose of intimidation or inflicting injury.
It shall be unlawful for any person to possess, carry or go armed with any firearm on or about their person in any of the following places:
A. 
Within any part of any building owned, occupied, or controlled by the Town, including the land surrounding said buildings and including all Town property.
B. 
Within any polling place, any officially designated premises within which ballots are being counted, during the period of time that voting is occurring, including early voting.
C. 
Within 250 feet of the entrance of a polling place or officially designated premises within which ballots are being counted, during the period of time that voting is occurring, including early voting.
This provision does not apply to a firearm or weapon carried by the following:
A. 
Any peace officer or law enforcement officer;
B. 
Any member of the armed forces or National Guard while going armed in the line of duty;
C. 
A correctional officer while going armed in the line of duty;
D. 
Guards or messengers of common carriers, express companies, armored car carriers, mail carriers, banks and other financial institutions while actually employed in the shipment, transportation or delivery of any money, bullion, bonds or any other thing of value within the Town.
In any prosecution brought to enforce the provisions of § 61-2, the prosecution need not negate any exemptions contained herein, and the defendant shall have the burden of proving that any exemption exists or applies.
This article does not prohibit a person from prossessing a firearm or weapon in a motor vehicle parked near a polling place or place within which ballots are being counted if the firearm or weapon is unloaded and stowed or for an instructor approved by the Town of New Glarus Board to teach hunter safety courses in the Town Hall Community Room if the firearm or weapon used for instruction is unloaded and no ammunition is present in the building.
The Town shall post signs in locations which notify the public of the provisions of this article.
This article may be enforced by any law enforcement officer authorized to enforce the laws of the state of Wisconsin and additionally as may be stated in a Town citation authority ordinance adopted per § 66.0113, Wis. Stats.
Any person who violates any provision of this article shall be subject to a forfeiture of not less than $250 nor more than $500.
This article will be effective immediately upon passage and posting or publication, as provided by law.
