Names for new streets created by subdivision or unnamed private or public streets shall be authorized by the town of Mesilla after research is done to eliminate duplication, actual or phonetic, or similar sounding words with only one or two letters different. Names should be 12 letters or less. Names cannot be obscene, comical or in questionable taste, e.g., Manteca (Lard), Grumpy, Trollop, etc. In keeping with the historical aspects of Mesilla, Spanish names are preferred for new streets.
